Jonas Balkus

Jonas is an MPhil in International Relations student at the University of Oxford. His thesis is focused on the role that historical memory plays in Sino-British relations, while his research for OCPL is centred around Chinese strategies to create divisions between the United States and its European allies. He is also the co-lead for operations at the Emerging Threats Group, a research group primarily focused on emerging technologies and threats in modern warfare and defence. Prior to studying at Oxford, Jonas studied History at Durham alongside language modules in Mandarin. He completed research projects on the 1972 Sino-American rapprochement and the 1973 Arab-Israeli War. Aside from speaking intermediate Mandarin, he also speaks intermediate level Italian and is fluent in Lithuanian.
